Pinnacle Lawn Care & Outdoor Aesthetics - Schedule your fall Lawn Care services

Autumn derives its “fall” nickname from the mass of shedding leaves that drop from trees as the weather cools. Green summer leaves transition to bold and earthy hues, changing from yellow to red and crumbling to brown.

The trees are not the only part of the landscape that changes in fall. Ornamental grasses and perennials also demand attention and care to prepare for the cold winter freeze. Get ready for autumn, learn the top fall lawn services that keep the landscape healthy, and prepare it for winter’s freeze!

Comprehensive Fall Lawn Services

The lawn and landscape require care year-round. As the seasons change, so do the needs of the grass, trees, shrubs, and plants. Pinnacle offers residential and commercial clients comprehensive year-round service plans to maintain their property.

These service plans provide the care and maintenance healthy landscapes need to thrive. While the Pinnacle team offers long-term, year-round customers the option to add single services, our care approach does not embrace a la carte landscape care.

Those dedicated to preserving their landscape understand that regular maintenance is crucial to healthy trees, plants, and lawns. For this reason, Pinnacle creates and adheres to a landscape care calendar for all clients.

This calendar includes fall clean-up services (also known as fall lawn care services). These autumnal services include leaf removal, cutting back ornamental grasses, cutting back perennials, and, for some clients, gutter cleaning.

Leaf Removal Services

Trees respond to changing temperatures and seasonal shifts in different ways. Deciduous trees shed their leaves during fall, leaving mounds of brown, brittle leaves littering the ground. These piles collect in areas that can harm the property and create habitats for pests. Fall clean-up services include leaf removal services to eliminate this clutter from the property.

The Pinnacle team rakes, collects, and disposes of all leaves on the property. This service ensures that the property remains clean, clear, and leaf-free.

Services to Cut Back Perennials

Perennials bloom once each year and die out after blooming. During the fall, many types of perennials need to be cut back. This maintenance keeps the plants healthy and promotes beautiful blooms for the spring season.

List of Perennials to Cut Back in Fall

To stay healthy and bloom vibrantly, many perennials must be cut back during the fall. Pinnacle cuts back these perennials during fall services:

  • Daylily

  • Peonies

  • Salvia

  • Catmint

  • Lilies

  • Yarrow

  • Cornflower

  • Hosta

Perennials Not to Cut Back in Fall

Not all perennials need to be cut back during fall. There are several varieties the Pinnacle team does not cut back. These perennials can be left alone:

  • Echinacea

  • Rudbeckia

  • Helianthus

  • Dianthus

Some of these are native plants that nourish birds and other wildlife. Pinnacle’s team will always explain why some perennials must be left alone.

How Far to Cut Back Perennials in the Fall

Typically, we cut perennials about an inch or two above the ground. This length adheres to best practices and ensures that plants grow, bloom, and flourish.

When to Cut Back Ornamental Grasses?

Cutting back ornamental grasses is a standard landscaping clean-up practice for fall. However, not all grasses need to be cut back. This service helps protects some grasses during winter, but heartier varieties may fare fine during a freeze. Sedges and carex are evergreen grasses and must not be trimmed during the fall.

Gutter Cleaning Saves the Roof

Pinnacle Lawn Care and Outdoor Aesthetics offers gutter cleaning services for regular clients (upon request). This service ensures that the gutters are free from leaves and debris, allowing adequate water flow from the room.

Clogged gutters are not just a nuisance; they can also lead to roof damage. As debris collects in the gutter, winter snow, and ice water cannot drain from the roof. Excess moisture can collect beneath shingles, leading to mold and leaks.

Gutters should be cleaned twice a year–in the spring and fall. However, homes or buildings with few trees on the property may require only a yearly gutter cleaning.
